At the time of briefing us, the Museum had established its First World War and Second World War galleries, but had no gallery dealing with conflicts after 1945. Our task in designing it was to interpret the changing nature of warfare from Hiroshima and Vietnam to the Gulf War and Bosnia. Subjects such as the collapse of communism, guerilla warfare and terrorism are examined, as well as the role of civil defence and the U.N.

The budget of £1.3m covered computer animation and video displays as well as scenic reconstructions and a high density of showcased exhibits.
